I made a new song, it's called Gypsy House, but in Hungarian: Cigány Ház.

Here are some interesting facts about the Gypsy:
a) Gypsy's were originally hindu.
b) They were/are skilled in witchcraft.
c) The only thing unifying the various groups of Gypsies is that they are nomadic. So don't stereotype.

Here are ome interesting facts about Hungary:
a) It is home to the world's largest thermal water cave system.
b) Hungarian has 14 vowels. Take that Vanna White.
c) Hungarian music has a strong dactylic rhtyhm. The only other word I know that has dactyl in it is pterodactyl. Which means they might have been Hungarian.

Finally back from 1 month on the road touring and figured I'd drop a remix on the blog. Apologies for no updates - no doubt sure the porn was getting boring.

This one started as an edit of Wang Chung's biggest track in old Blighty but ended up getting a bit fancy. I first heard of the band when I started my days at CJLO as their vinyl catalogue manager, see: clean this shit up. Slept on all the Wang Chung jams there for days, but stumbled upon this one (elsewhere) and fell in love with the saxophone. The saxophone. The saxophone. I emphasize the saxophone. Forgiveness please for the extended absence. Classi Assi and F.U.N.K. have been so busy over the last month as 2/3 of The Moustache Men DJ's DIY Tour. Starting in Montreal, we've been throwing parties across the country and we're writing this post from the Calgary Airport (We, as discerning connoisseurs of food-court fare, recommend the Black Pepper Chicken at the Manchu Wok), waiting to catch an evening flight to Vancouver.

It's V-Day tomorrow, and love is on the ropes, getting the beats from old man money. Why is it that people think they can buy love? Perhaps it's a tempting deal: I pay you this, you give me that. Enter Sugar Daddy stage left. Owned, just because you can.

It's a tough line to walk. The path is littered with tempting carrots, dangled within easy reach by poisoned fingers. Short cuts abound, and it's in times like these when things in life that old man money can't buy ring true.

Well I think love is pulling a rope-a-dope. Time for the KO.

So Freestyle express were Tony Butler,Garfield Baker,Byron Smith, Sherman Neely. As far as I know, Butler also cut other classic electro tracks (Debbie Deb!!!)... These guys were prolific, and a lot of their songs were soundtracks to the golden era of b-boying and locking.
The original version of this track is dope, if you like non-stop mono-tonal vocoders for several minutes (who doesn't). For playing out purposes, F.U.N.K. and I tweaked it touch and just kept the golden bit.

There is also a killer version of this song re-worked by Daniel Haaksman - head of MAN recordings in Berlin, a label that specializes in Baile Funk from the slums of Rio. Frankly, I don't understand how that connection works, but the remix speaks for itself.

Trains, planes and automobiles - no more busses! Yep thats right, F.U.N.K. is movin up in the world! After taking the train back to MTL after a blustery winter weekend in Ontario, I'm hooked! Xmas Pork Roast

Today I'm writing in Georgia and a festive red for Kwanza, and tomorrow I'm going sledding mothersuckers.
F.U.N.K. slapped together a nice remix of a Mavado acapella, which was sampled by the Smalltown DJs in one of their reworks, which sampled the horn break of Strike It Up. This led me to want to remix the Perfecto Allstar's "Reach Up (Papa's Got a Brand New Pig Bag)" horns, which are similar to the Strike It Up ones, and familiar to anyone who watched MuchMusic's Electric Circus (RIP).
Vocals care of Soul Dimension's "Trash and Ready" from the short lived BBoy records (86'-88'; Bridge is Over anyone? Dope dope.).
Ridiculous chain of influences and whatnot, but non-linear thought is in like something that's in (what do I know about that shit anyways).

Hey, I'm Classi Assi, and I'm using "Trebuchet" as my font setting. A Trebuchet was a medieval siege weapon that operated on a complex sling system, allowing the attackers to hurl large items (rocks, corpses, etc) at their enemies. I know this because I play too many geeky video games.
Also, I am writing in a sort of lime green colour, because I'm zany!
Attached is a beat I made based on a nice little boogie number that I felt needed a bit of sprucing up.

Williams aka King Sporty who's musical career spanned reggae, funk, electro, and Miami bass. He also is credited with co-writing Buffalo Soldier with Bob Marley. Carmen - Time To Move F.U.N.K. Edit

Hey sorry for the lack of posts as of late, things have been super busy around town. Big things are in the works - I'll keep you posted....

Here's a great song by Carmen called Time To Move (1983). This is a great example of early 80's boogie funk production, and the vocals are inescapably catchy. I basically shortened the song into a bite sized morsel, added a mixable intro, some dynamics to the drums, and made the breakdown/build pack a little more punch.

I've got to shout out to BEAT ELECTRIC, an amazing blog that has been a major source of music for my sets recently - good work guys! I grabbed Time To Move from there a few weeks ago and have been playing it out ever since.
