LOVE DISCO STYLE One Year Anniversary!

It's been a year since intrepid, handsome and modest dj's Bain Magique and yours truly, F.U.N.K. began bringing supple funk and boogie grooves to the people of MTL.

Countless sweaty dance floors and vodka soda's later we are happy to celebrate our one year anniversary with special guest the OG RUBY JANE! This lady brings the funk on the regular to spots all over the east, and in our minds, is a pillar of the funk scene in MTL - NOT TO BE MISSED!

If you are in the city this Saturday, June 27th, then come celebrate the FUNK at Vinyl Lounge, 2109 Bleury - 10pm. No Cover.

Here's a new Disco edit by David Shaw of the MTL Loose Joints DJ's - really smooth production and a sexy molasses groove. In David's words:

Un autre edit for you to share. This one's perhaps more a remix, as there was a lot of production added. See if you can pick out what's original! Special thanks to my sister Nancy for liberating the original vinyl from an ignoble fate in a dusty bar coffin. It's a slow burner, so throw a nice piece of birch in the fireplace and pour yourself a stiff libation. Enjoy!

This is a song for those of you who've fallen for someone; you feel vulnerable and happy, calm yet afraid, excited but cautious - yeah you know.

This song is based on a sample She's So Divine by The Limit, but it's pretty chopped up.

Carmen - Time To Move F.U.N.K. Edit

Hey sorry for the lack of posts as of late, things have been super busy around town. Big things are in the works - I'll keep you posted....

Here's a great song by Carmen called Time To Move (1983).  This is a great example of early 80's boogie funk production, and the vocals are inescapably catchy.  I basically shortened the song into a bite sized morsel, added a mixable intro,  some dynamics to the drums, and made the breakdown/build pack a little more punch.  

I've got to shout out to BEAT ELECTRIC, an amazing blog that has been a major source of music for my sets recently - good work guys! I grabbed Time To Move from there a few weeks ago and have been playing it out ever since.
