LOVE DISCO STYLE MIX SERIES #1: Love Will Find a Way

Aw yeah, it's time for the first Love Disco Style mix: "Love Will Find A Way"

I rounded this mix out in two wine soaked afternoons of holiday downtime.  I was really feeling the female vocal boogie for the first twenty minutes or so of the mix, then it digresses into funkier territory, getting down with Dionysus, hitting the hedonism, and finally getting happy and emotional - it's a lot like getting drunk really... whatever it is, it sure is funky!

Enjoy it here!!

Stay Tuned for a fresh Mix from Classi and F.U.N.K. early in 2009!!!

K-Os "Whip C.R.E.A.M." Remix + BONUS!!

(Don't Believe the Hype)

Trains, planes and automobiles - no more busses!  Yep thats right, F.U.N.K. is movin up in the world!  After taking the train back to MTL after a blustery winter weekend in Ontario, I'm hooked!  Plugging in your laptop, sitting back and stretching your legs - aww bliss.... never mind the $5 bag of chips and $2 coffee.

This little remix is a direct result of the newfoundleisureland that is the train.  I entered the track into a contest just for fun (and because I'm proud of the production) so please show your support and vote while listening to the track!

Check it: here!

And as a thank you for voting, and as a segue from Assi's post, here's that Mavado Badman Place Remix:  Badman Place - ( F.U.N.K.'s Kicked in the Face Remix)

Merry Kwansismukka and to all a good night!

Xmas Pork Roast

Today I'm writing in Georgia and a festive red for Kwanza, and tomorrow I'm going sledding mothersuckers.
F.U.N.K. slapped together a nice remix of a Mavado acapella, which was sampled by the Smalltown DJs in one of their reworks, which sampled the horn break of Strike It Up. This led me to want to remix the Perfecto Allstar's "Reach Up (Papa's Got a Brand New Pig Bag)" horns, which are similar to the Strike It Up ones, and familiar to anyone who watched MuchMusic's Electric Circus (RIP).
Vocals care of Soul Dimension's "Trash and Ready" from the short lived BBoy records (86'-88'; Bridge is Over anyone? Dope dope.).
Ridiculous chain of influences and whatnot, but non-linear thought is in like something that's in (what do I know about that shit anyways).
Merry Festivus

Head Over Heels

This is a song for those of you who've fallen for someone; you feel vulnerable and happy, calm yet afraid, excited but cautious - yeah you know.

This song is based on a sample She's So Divine by The Limit, but it's pretty chopped up.

I hope all y'all have a fantastic holiday!

Strutt your filter

Hey, I'm Classi Assi, and I'm using "Trebuchet" as my font setting. A Trebuchet was a medieval siege weapon that operated on a complex sling system, allowing the attackers to hurl large items (rocks, corpses, etc) at their enemies. I know this because I play too many geeky video games.
Also, I am writing in a sort of lime green colour, because I'm zany!
Attached is a beat I made based on a nice little boogie number that I felt needed a bit of sprucing up.
I'm drinking my face off this saturday at Vinyl for Love Disco Night. You should too.

Ex Tras Edit + DANCE PARTY SATURDAY!

Here's a little jammy from the Ex Tras on their 1982 Konduko Records release.  The track was produced by Noel G. Williams aka King Sporty who's musical career spanned reggae, funk, electro, and Miami bass.  He also is credited with co-writing Buffalo Soldier with Bob Marley. Here are a few of his early reggae jams:

The track Haven't Been Funked Enough is surprisingly hard and funky with some crazy chipmunk vocals, synthy bass, and great disco percussion.  Grab the edit here

Also come down and boogie tomorrow night, Saturday December 6th, at Vinyl Lounge, 2109 Bleury for another Love Disco Style!!  Here's the FB event: LOVE DISCO STYLE

Carmen - Time To Move F.U.N.K. Edit

Hey sorry for the lack of posts as of late, things have been super busy around town. Big things are in the works - I'll keep you posted....

Here's a great song by Carmen called Time To Move (1983).  This is a great example of early 80's boogie funk production, and the vocals are inescapably catchy.  I basically shortened the song into a bite sized morsel, added a mixable intro,  some dynamics to the drums, and made the breakdown/build pack a little more punch.

I've got to shout out to BEAT ELECTRIC, an amazing blog that has been a major source of music for my sets recently - good work guys! I grabbed Time To Move from there a few weeks ago and have been playing it out ever since.

Check the edit here

Also check out CJLO.COM this Tuesday from 12pm - 2pm for my radio show,  Go Funk Yourself with my co-conspirator, Classi Assi.  This week we've got DR ONE of Team Canada fame throwing down and makin people go bananas so tune in for the madness... If you miss it, a podcast is in the works, but more on that later.
