Ride on the Rhythm

I made a track this summer, which I felt would be appropriate to put out there on the interwebs in celebration of F.U.N.K.'s and my (and New Money, Rilly Guilty, Phil AD, and Seb Diamond, and A-Rock's) new night, Paradise Garage (see post below).
The track is a 90s house sounding doozy, so grab it, share it, and enjoy!

See you friday at DCBL (4119 Boul St Laurent)!

Paradise Garage + Rilly Guilty Mix

Finally there is an end to your dismal Friday nights in Montreal. Salvation is here, you have somewhere to go, unwind and lose your inhibitions.

A collective of young creative minds are taking back the dance floor. Devoted to giving you an outlet each week to dance your face off and returning the focus to the Music and the DJ – not the social status of its patrons – we're bringing the dance party back to it's roots. Check your status at the door and release yourself!

Inspired by the renowned PARADISE GARAGE in New York during the late 70's and early 80's. Like the now-legendary DJ Larry Levan, our DJs are passionate about driving the dance floor. Classi Assi, Rilly Guilty, A-Rock, Seb Diamond, New Money, Phil AD, F.U.N.K. and friends will be bringing you an assortment of Fun Music to satisfy your hunger for a sweaty dance party.

To whet your appetite for Fun Music, here's a mix by Rilly Guilty: Golden Sounds Vol 1

So join us every Friday night at DCBL, 4119 St. Laurent. --> FB GROUP

Cigány Ház make dancing

I made a new song, it's called Gypsy House, but in Hungarian: Cigány Ház.

Here are some interesting facts about the Gypsy:
a) Gypsy's were originally hindu.
b) They were/are skilled in witchcraft.
c) The only thing unifying the various groups of Gypsies is that they are nomadic. So don't stereotype.

Here are ome interesting facts about Hungary:
a) It is home to the world's largest thermal water cave system.
b) Hungarian has 14 vowels. Take that Vanna White.
c) Hungarian music has a strong dactylic rhtyhm. The only other word I know that has dactyl in it is pterodactyl. Which means they might have been Hungarian.

Click
here for the link, pass on to your friends, and dance like a pterodactyl while practicing witchcraft.

While you're at it, tune into

donna summer - hot stuff (yale's refix)

I don't care what anybody says. Donna Summer is in my top 10 artists of all time. This fine lady made tracks 30 years ago that are still untouchable dancefloor classics. I've uploaded a re-drum and remaster with some tube compression so it sounds nicer in the club.

Wang Chung - Dancehall Days (Classi's Don't Ignore 84' RMX)

Finally back from 1 month on the road touring and figured I'd drop a remix on the blog. Apologies for no updates - no doubt sure the porn was getting boring.

This one started as an edit of Wang Chung's biggest track in old Blighty but ended up getting a bit fancy. I first heard of the band when I started my days at CJLO as their vinyl catalogue manager, see: clean this shit up. Slept on all the Wang Chung jams there for days, but stumbled upon this one (elsewhere) and fell in love with the saxophone. The saxophone. The saxophone. I emphasize the saxophone. Doesn't happen often.

Link is here.

Salut to all the people I met along the way - lookin good!

The Moustache Men DJ's: DIY Tour + New Contributors!!

Forgiveness please for the extended absence.  Classi Assi and F.U.N.K. have been so busy over the last month as 2/3 of The Moustache Men DJ's DIY Tour.  Starting in Montreal, we've been throwing parties across the country and we're writing this post from the Calgary Airport (We, as discerning connoisseurs of food-court fare, recommend the Black Pepper Chicken at the Manchu Wok), waiting to catch an evening flight to Vancouver.

Shameless Plug Alert: For regular Moustache Men updates, info, photos and vids, check out the myspace:  www.myspace.com/moustachemendjs

In other news we are pleased to announce a few new contributors to the blog:

DJ Yale Fox of the Fragglerock DJ's - www.fragglerockdjs.com
Expect some great material from this amazing deejay/producer - we're all excited!

and

DJ New Money - the hustle behind the Moustache Men DJ's phenomenon. This guy's a machine with another dope style/music/streetwear blog: www.djnewmoney.com

We appreciate your patience! We've been busy on the production tip as well in our downtime so expect some new material soon!

George Foreman Funk

Heeeeeeyyyy. Wussssuppppp.
Made this mix live, spent a bit of time tidying it up, and now it's dun'r. Mostly older soul and funk, probably pretty good to put on before you go out and get silly.
Going on cross-Canaydia trip soon to DJ, stay tuned for updates.
Mix is here.
PS Pass on to your friends and loved ones. Makes a great Christmas present, so you can be stress free in a couple of months.

Disco Edit ala David Shaw

Here's a new Disco edit by David Shaw of the MTL Loose Joints DJ's - really smooth production and a sexy molasses groove. In David's words:

Un autre edit for you to share. This one's perhaps more a remix, as there was a lot of production added. See if you can pick out what's original! Special thanks to my sister Nancy for liberating the original vinyl from an ignoble fate in a dusty bar coffin. It's a slow burner, so throw a nice piece of birch in the fireplace and pour yourself a stiff libation. Enjoy!

Claudja Barry "Love 4 The Sake Of Love" (Crisco Dancing Edit) 5:49 95bpm 320kbps

You can catch David Shaw this Saturday at LOVE DISCO STYLE avec Bain Magique for a boogie throw-down!

Also, check out fellow disco diggers at the AttitudeCity blog to seek out any questions your heart may desire...

Stealing Hearts Just Because You Can

It's V-Day tomorrow, and love is on the ropes, getting the beats from old man money.  Why is it that people think they can buy love? Perhaps it's a tempting deal: I pay you this, you give me that. Enter Sugar Daddy stage left. Owned, just because you can.

It's a tough line to walk. The path is littered with tempting carrots, dangled within easy reach by poisoned fingers. Short cuts abound, and it's in times like these when things in life that old man money can't buy ring true.

Well I think love is pulling a rope-a-dope. Time for the KO.

In the spirit of this post here's a little edit for you, my valentines:

Also V-Day night is a busy one for the Love Disco Style deejays:

Classi Assi is holding it down with NewMoney and Goldzilla at Le Bisou, 4147 St. Laurent

Also, down the street, Bain Magique and F.U.N.K. are joined by Ruby Jane for a night of sexy sounds, sweaty bodies, and ice cold drinks at Vinyl Lounge, 2109 Bleury between Dead Prez and Sherbrooke O.

The night is dedicated to raising funds for local MTL organization, À Deux Mains/ Head and Hands

Love.

See what happens when you find a stranger in the alps?

Basically this is what happens when I end up owning music production software: I end up editing/remixing ridiculous songs. I don't know why. I suppose coming out to see my sets is like one bad joke, but nobody's laughing.

Link.

PS Playing at Blue Dog tonight. I do every Thursday for that matter. It's something you have to get off the internet to experience, though getting a 40 oz and huffing nitrous for a night might get close to it.

Don't Stop the Rock

So Freestyle express were Tony Butler,Garfield Baker,Byron Smith, Sherman Neely. As far as I know, Butler also cut other classic electro tracks (Debbie Deb!!!)... These guys were prolific, and a lot of their songs were soundtracks to the golden era of b-boying and locking.
The original version of this track is dope, if you like non-stop mono-tonal vocoders for several minutes (who doesn't). For playing out purposes, F.U.N.K. and I tweaked it touch and just kept the golden bit.

Classi & F.U.N.K.s tweek-a-leek here

There is also a killer version of this song re-worked by Daniel Haaksman - head of MAN recordings in Berlin, a label that specializes in Baile Funk from the slums of Rio. Frankly, I don't understand how that connection works, but the remix speaks for itself.

Haaksmans hack-up here

Club stuff

Just a quick reminder - New Money and Classi are at Le Bisou, at St. Laurent, every Saturday... Good lord the choices abound! Free cosmos for the ladies til 1am. Sexism is alive well thank you very much.

PS Solid Miami Disco, sampled by Biggie (and others). Will post vinyl rip of the LP version - the drums sound kuh-razee on it. In the meantime, shabbat shalom.
